Livin' on a Prayer

She says, "We've gotta hold on to what we've got.
It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not.
We've got each other and that's a lot.
For love we'll give it a shot."
Whoa, we're half-way there.
Whoa, livin' on a prayer.
Take my hand, we'll make it. I swear.
Whoa, livin' on a prayer.
Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi
This has been our theme song since we launched Kamari Kids two years ago - two besties following a dream of owning a children’s clothing boutique for the dreamer, the music lover and the child that stands out from the pack. It’s never been about making it big or selling clothes really but about inspiring kids to be themselves and take a chance.
We’re giving it a shot!
The most amazing thing happened during our photo shoot for our Kamari Kids fall/winter look book. We were shooting down in the West Village with the whole crew walking the streets of this beautiful city.
Is that Jon Bon Jovi?
I was down the block with three of our models and our photographer, Jose Carlier, and suddenly I see all of the moms and kids that are part of the shoot walking down the block towards us with a man that looks incredibly familiar but didn’t quite place.
He jumped right into the photo with the kids.
My face froze.
I ask my friend Cynthia Litman (our lawyer/business adviser & mom of Casey, our model), “Is that Bon Jovi?”
“Yes it is,” she whispered.
I later learned that Maria’s husband went to grab a cup of coffee and spotted Bon Jovi in a nearby bookstore. He came back to the salon and told the group. In that instant, Cynthia stood up and bee lined for the bookstore.
She knew this was a once in a lifetime chance! She approached Jon and shared about our photo shoot for Kamari ROCK STAR Kids around the block and asked him if he would do us the biggest favor and take a few pictures with our Kamari Kids!!
He said, “Sure!”
Epic Photo Bomb
He actually followed her for a few blocks to where we were shooting. He could have ducked out at any moment. The next thing I know, Jon Bon Jovi is jumping into our photo with our Kamari Kids decked out in rock n roll inspired clothing!!!
The most epic Photo Bomb Ever!
Our photographer couldn’t understand why this random person was getting into the photos until Jon took his sunglasses off and she saw those eyes!! Meanwhile, I couldn’t believe we didn’t have one of our models wearing our Bon Jovi band tee by Rowdy Sprout!!! I know exactly where it was back in our show room!!!
I was in all my glory, as if my sixteen year old self suddenly re-appeared, I told Jon how I had a life size poster of him in my room when I was sixteen. Not only were Maria and I both in love with him all through high school, but he is a true rock star, a legend.
It was a perfect New York moment.
He looked like he got a kick out of posing with the kids and we got some great group shots. I was star struck and shaking throughout the rest of the shoot!!
Average Sunday Afternoon
It’s pretty incredible how someone with his fame, who probably gets bombarded all the time, took time out of his Sunday afternoon to walk a few blocks to be part of a photo shoot for a small company like ours. He wished me luck and went on his way holding his wife’s hand down the block.
It was an epic experience that we cannot believe actually happened and one that we’ll never forget.
As he walked away, two of our models, Nick and Alex, were like, “Was that really Bon Jovi with us in the photo?”
Our other model Julia said to our youngest model Sophia, “We just met a real live artist!”
Sophia replied, “he looked like a rockstar.”
We hope the kids recognize how unbelievably lucky they were, we know the moms did! We hope as their super rock star powers grow, they shine a light onto other’s striving for their dreams, like Jon did for us.
Jon, thank you, U ROCK!!!
