STYLING YOUR KIDS, ONE ROCKST★R AT A TIME

BEING A SMALL BUSINESS

Posted on 20 January 2017

As funny as this sounds, it actually happens.  I remember that first online order that came through the day we launched almost a year and a half ago.  We received the notification about 20 minutes after we switched our website to live.  Maria and I were on the phone and our thoughts were ... WE DON'T EVEN KNOW THIS PERSON!  This is the coolest thing ever.  Needless to say, she has become a very loyal customer that we are so grateful for.

Speaking more about happy dances, there was another one, the day we received an order for 45 items from one customer.   This was truly a happy dance after all the doubts running through our minds as to the legitimacy of the order.  There were several times throughout the day that we thought for sure we were shipping out all of this inventory to find out it was fraud.  IT WASN'T!!!  She actually signed up for our newsletter and ended up returning about 3 items and kept the rest.  Amazing feeling for a small business!

There are so many days that you get discouraged, being a small business, where you are constantly asking yourself if you're doing the right thing.  At the end of the day it all comes back to the fact that we LOVE what we do.  We have a real excitement of curating our looks and creativity for our customers.  We are always trying to find new up and coming brands to introduce to make sure that your lil' rockstar is the best dressed.  This is why we keep going and love every minute of it, whether it be shipping out orders, pop up events, doing inventory, shopping at trade shows, meeting such creative and talented designers, hours of time spent on conference calls to help us run our business to meeting our customers in person, the best part!

This has sort of been our motto through life.  Life is short and the desire to experience new things is in all of us.  We have both tried a variety of different careers in the past and our lives have always led us down interesting roads and new possibilities.  The key is to grab it and embrace that new possibility and take the path even if it's not always the one that makes the most sense at the time.

There are many mistakes to be made down that road if you decide to open a small business but the small day to day rewards are all so worth it.  We use every mistake as a learning opportunity because that's how we grow as a business and as humans.

Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn...

How lucky are we to be doing this together!
